SFIT is an annual five-day festival of improvisational theater and comedy in Seattle. Groups from all over North America and all over the world descend upon the city to perform at two great venues.
Each SFIT includes:
SFIT is the national leader in festivals of Improvisational theater. This festival showcases the best artistry in the nation, and pushes the boundaries of what is possible in this art form. SFIT also galvanizes the Pacific Northwest community, and establishes Seattle and JCI as the center of the artistic hub of Improv in America.
The Seattle Festival of Improvisational Theater (SFIT) strives to:
The Seattle Festival of Improvisational Theater (SFIT) was founded in 2002 by Matt Grabowski, Andrew McMasters and Justin Sund. With a focus on innovation and professionalism, SFIT has become known as an exciting and steadfast part of the national improv circuit. From humble beginnings we’ve grown to a point where over 80 groups from across the nation have applied to this festival each year for the past few years.
And as the improv landscape has grown exponentially in Seattle, more and more local groups vie for spots at this event.
Over these 16 years we've welcomed over 125 unique improv groups from Austin, Chicago, Honolulu, Los Angeles, Milwauke, Minneapolis, New York, Oklahoma City, Philadelphia, Portland, San Fancisco, and Vancouver, B.C. (many of them returning multiple times).
As a surprise to us all, in 2012 our first group from abroad (Paris) applied to the festival, with Italy, Edmonton, and Mumbai following in subsequent years.
Despite growing interest from across this great planet, we have chosen to retain the feel of (what Austin improv maven Asaf Ronen once called) "a boutique festival," with just two venues, so you can see (almost) everything, and meet (almost) everyone. We value this level of intimacy and quality in this event.
SFIT continues to seek out the best performers and instructors in the improvisational theater world, and entice them to Seattle to delight and inform audiences in the greater Seattle area and the Pacific Northwest.
Many students join SFIT because it brings loads of joy and new friends. The festival's program offers attendees a perfect mix of entertainment and partying with practical workshops on different topics. Thanks to great professionals who lead the activities for the SFIT participants, each student gets new knowledge and experience.
One of the most visited activities on the SFIT schedule is the Book Club (Seattle). Joining this club is very effective for anyone who loves reading and is willing to build a great network of like-minded people.
As students admit, visiting the SFIT Book Club helps them find original ideas and form their views regarding rare and complicated novels, books, and poems from college programs. It is not a secret that students must handle loads of written assignments in colleges and universities. Some tasks, like literary essays, relate to reading and require a student to be familiar with the plot of various books. Moreover, discussing literature pieces in the Book Club helps students to learn how to analyze and generate opinions.
