A Point in My Life When I Felt the Transition into Adulthood
Introduction
I’m sure that everyone has, more than once in their life, heard someone tell them that it was “time to grow up” or to “be an adult.” But what exactly does it mean to become an adult? What changes in one’s life? It is not simply about physiological changes, not just about aging, it is about changing from the outlook of a youth (Erikson, 1968) to the outlook of an adult.
My experience of becoming an adult
I remember a time when I could wander the streets, simply freely walking, on my own wavelength, and not thinking about what awaited me tomorrow or what surrounded me. It took some time, but suddenly, it seemed I had stopped the carefree wandering and dreaming. Now I understand Simosen (2011), who said that “with adulthood comes responsibility” (p.61).
My turning point in life came to me at the age of 16 when I left my house and family and moved to another country, which was thousands of kilometers from my home. I couldn’t even imagine how I would live without the support of my close friends and parents.
Being alone in a foreign country, I faced a lot of pressing things and events, emotional experiences, and responsibilities. I had to make wise decisions and adapt to new customs and traditions, and the new, for me, rules and laws of that society. In other words, I had to dream less and think more. I simply absorbed into myself the laws of adult existence without consciously doing it.
Conclusion
I can agree that somewhere deep in my heart I will always remain a child. That is, someone innocent, sincere, kind, and in some ways helpless. But it is a rule of life that we change. We have no choice but to grow up, to feel a part of society, and to find our path. The important thing is not to live in vain and to appreciate every breath. Because life is the most precious gift that is given, and it is given only once.

Growing up has its advantages.
There is no need to go to school, do homework, help mom wash the dishes, be afraid of getting your pants dirty or being late to come back home. But adults need to earn money and be able to manage it. You need to pay rent, buy groceries, cook, help your children with homework, and manage household chores.
Is it difficult to be an adult? On the one hand, it’s easy. After all, some of the most difficult developing stages of life have already been passed, we have gained experience, and dreams have been realized. But on the other hand, an adult has a lot of responsibility. As a child, you are responsible only for yourself, but as an adult, you must become a reliable person for someone else.
