Essay Example about Deja vu

A Moment in My Life When I Experienced Serious Deja Vu

Sometimes we encounter instances in our lives that create distinct memories that live on in our minds even if we’re not consciously aware of them. This is where the experience of déjà vu comes from. When it occurs, it seems to spark those memories – perhaps of a place we have already been, a person we have seen or an activity that we have already done (Orloff). Déjà vu tends to draw an individual’s attention to the current situation in a peculiar manner making it seems as though we’d had some premonition of the current experience.

Personally, I have experienced déjà vus several times. On each occasion, what I was experiencing was as clear to me as the rising sun in the summer sky. However, to date, there is this particular, special déjà vu experience that still lingers in my mind.

During my college years as an undergraduate, I hopped from one unsuccessful relationship to the next. It seemed like I was incapable of finding the perfect match. However, somehow at the back of my mind I knew that I would meet my match during my third year at campus and that she would definitely be the lady I would tie the knot with. This thought was so distinct that I even knew I would meet her in the library.

During my second year, I decided to focus on my studies totally. This however was short-lived. I found myself in yet another relationship that took the same path as the previous ones. “After all that is how they all end up,” I consoled myself.

Then came one of those Sunday afternoons before the examination period. Everyone was engrossed in their books. Friends were scarce to be seen and one’s primary companions at that point were one’s books. So, my companions and I decided to find a place conducive to study for the ‘Phenomenology of Religion’ paper that had already led to many sleepless nights throughout the semester. The library it was.

The library was always packed to the brim at such times and finding a place to sit was like finding a pearl-laden oyster in the sea. But not finding a space was simply not an option.

I heaved with a sigh of relief when I located a spot in the corner – an empty seat next to a young one in the opposite corner. I approached her and asked if I could take the seat. Well, as one might have expected, she was saving the seat for a friend.

However, she welcomed me to “keep the seat warm” before her friend’s arrival. And so I did. There was something about this girl. Her smile was heartwarming, her voice was clear and beautiful. I felt as if I had known her for ages. The conversation I had with her at that moment sparked something in me.

I felt as if I had met her already met here somewhere and everything that was occurring at that particular moment seemed like something I had experienced before. The girl would become my girlfriend, and then fiancée, until December 10, 1990, we tied the knot in a very colorful wedding at my neighborhood church.

This, to me, was the most serious case of déjà vu I had ever experienced.

Today we want to share with you detailed tips on how to write essays about déjà vu. Below are some key steps and nuances that will help you create a quality essay:

1.  Understanding the topic.

Before you start writing an essay about déjà vu, thoroughly research and analyze the topic. Understand its key aspects, terms and possible points of view.

2.  Planning.

Create a paper plan that will serve as the basis for your essay about déjà vu. You might choose to divide it into a formal introduction, body and conclusion – for example, if you’re making some argument. Or, alternatively, if it’s a narrative, have a sense of how you want to start, what you want in the middle, and how you would like to finish off your story. Let’s say that you are not going the narrative route (like the above example). If you choose to instead, for example, argue some point about deja vu, you might create a more formal introduction, body, and conclusion – here’s one way you might organize these sections:

  1. Introduction

Start your essay about déjà vu with a short but compelling introduction that will grab the reader’s attention. Introduce the topic and its significance, and formulate a central thesis statement that will be developed in the body of the essay.

  1. Body

In the body of the essay about déjà vu, you should develop your ideas and arguments, supported by evidence and examples. Each paragraph should contain one main idea or argument that is logically connected to the central thesis.

  1. Conclusion
