What Is the Difference Between Christianity and Mormonism?

Introduction

Christianity and Mormonism are radically different despite the latter’s claims that they are Christians. This is evident in their theological foundations. From their view of God to their view of salvation, the two cannot be the same even in the most fundamental ideas.

The Unity of God

According to the Christians, there is only one God, since the beginning and until the end of time. This god whom many people call Yahweh exists only in spirit. This is shown consistently in the Bible, from the book of Genesis to the book of Revelation. In contrast, there were many gods according to Mormons. Their god was once human who was exalted. This means that he had fresh and bones. These descriptions are found in certain books of faith they use such as the Book of Abraham and Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith.

The Conception of God

Jesus Christ, according to Christians, was born of the Virgin Mary and is the eternal Son of God. He has two natures: that being a man and that being a God. As stated in the Gospel of John, Christ has existed since the creation. However, according to the Mormons, he was conceived in a natural manner. His parents copulated and he was given birth to. Additionally, he is also the literal spirit-brother of Lucifer.

The Trinity

The Holy Trinity is one of the main doctrines of Christianity. This states that God exists in three personas: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Mormons also have these three personalities yet they are viewed as separate gods and not of the same being.

Terms of Salvation

Lastly, in terms of salvation, Christians believe that this is something given by God because He is merciful and gracious. This cannot be earned by works. John 3:16 accurately describes this – as long as a person believes in Jesus, he will have eternal life. This is different from the Mormon’s belief that salvation could be earned by obeying the laws and ordinances of the Gospel. If this is true, then there is no need for concept of grace and mercy which are two of the many attributes of God, according to the Christian.
